A few useful details
Keep a lossless original
WAV and FLAC keep decoded audio lossless at the chosen bit depth. High quality uses 24-bit; smaller uses 16-bit. MP3, AAC and OGG compress the sound.
Choose a video format
MP4 is a practical choice for sharing. MOV, WebM and MKV are also available. Video is re-encoded at its original size and frame rate; odd dimensions gain a one-pixel border.
Know what carries over
We use the first video and audio tracks and copy supported text tags. Extra tracks, subtitles, chapters and artwork are not included. Compressed outputs use mono or stereo; lossless audio keeps the source channels.
